Shocking Pink! Hentai Manga

We're very fortunate to be able to offer you guys the brand new Hentai manga release of Shocking pink! 248 pages of Oppai (large breasts) harem goodness all fully translated in English. The story is a modern parody of Romance of Three Kingdoms with a Hentai twist. As you my know from personal experience it’s very rare to find Hentai manga translated into English and in my person opinion probably the best quality one I’ve ever read.

Erotica 2011

If you didn’t know already Erotica is a convention similar to the MCM Expo but dedicated to the many facets of erotic items and the porn industry. I only heard of the event about a month ago and our original plan was to have a stand there but due to the time frame we gave it a pass this year. With that all said it didn’t stop us going to check the place out!

So Emilie and I went up to London and after a nice lunch at the Japan Centre we went off to Erotica, it’s actually the first Expo style event I’ve been in a long time where I wasn’t a stall holder. I really love attending events as a dealer but it was good to have a proper stress free look around the event. The event was full of adult toys and clothing which is great for couples or a load of really friendly and absolutely gorgeous booth girls and porn stars for all those going the event alone ~_^

We’ll see how 2012 goes but we’ll probably be at Erotica next year and I really do recommend it to anyone who’s open minded and into this sort of thing obviously...

London MCM Expo

The London MCM Expo (if you didn’t know already) is Britain's largest Comic Convention with 50,000+ people per show and is a showcase of Cult Entertainment and Pop-Culture from various segments of the Entertainment Industry: Science Fiction/Fantasy Films & TV, Animation, Comics, Games, Japan, Anime, Manga, Cosplay, Pop Art, Collectable’s (Figures, Autographs etc.).

Why did I start going?

I’ve been going to the MCM Expo in London for 5 to 6 years now, I actually found out about it from a Tokyopop in-store event. Primarily I’m a huge fan of anything Japanese but my geekiness spreads to western Comics, Films and Games, so the MCM was the perfect place for me. Throughout the years I’ve made friends, relationships and heightened my knowledge and love for my interests - all through the MCM Expo. We’ve had a constant stand at the MCM Expo for about 4 years now, I find it really difficult when I hear store owners at events like the MCM Expo referring to what they sell and the event as 'work'. Yes ok it is work, but we enjoy every minute of it. The buzz of an Expo-weekend (it’s now a 3 day weekend Friday to Sunday) is like nothing else, and don’t worry not all shop owners have that attitude it’s a varied bunch (you can usually tell after few seconds of talking to someone...

Work for TokyoBookstore

Both Dominic and I love photography (we even have A-Levels to prove it!) and as you probably know by now we like to blog about events like the MCM Expo which means taking a lot of photos! Unfortunately due to the amount of work we need to do over the expo weekend we don’t get a lot of time to get shots which is why we’re asking one of you very lovely people to help us! We’re looking for someone to help us photo blog this Octobers London MCM Expo.

What we’re looking for
We’re not focusing on the written side of things, don’t get me wrong if you would like to caption some of the photos that’s fine too we’re many looking for someone who can offer us a lot good quality photographs of the weekends happenings. We’re looking for photos the document the weekend from waiting in line to cosplays, stands, fans, events and even the expo night experiences like parties and meets. These photographs would preferable be taken on a DSLR Camera which can handle a good range of depth of field shots and night photography. It’s up to you if you want to edit your photos or give them to us to review and edit...

Body-proportions in Doujinshi

Hey Guys, Emilie here!
Reading/looking at Doujinshi Is fun for a number of reasons at the best of times, but one of my favourite things is the body proportions that artists give the characters either that they have created or that they have “amplified” from other creations from the Otaku media.

We usually see unusually long Torsos with young artists who perhaps haven't quite got the hang of fine artistry yet. Which can look really hilarious and in some cases, just plain weird. I remember an example of this was in a particular Angel Beats Doujinshi where Yuri just looks like she's going to transform into some sort of snake! It’s was very strange.

Comiket 80

Hey guys if you didn’t know already Comiket (コミケット), also known as Comic Market (コミックマーケット), Is one of the world’s largest and longest running comic convention/ fair. Starting way back in the winter of 1975, Comiket grew from around 600 attendees to over half a million visitors at Comiket 80 this year. Comiket is held twice a year in August and December selling mainly Doujinshi by hundreds of different circles with myriad themes and styles dedicated to parades of Anime, manga and gaming. The circles selling at Comiket range from independent and small artists, promising new-comers and some professional Hentai and Yaoi groups sometimes boasting earnings up to and over millions of yen! (hundreds of thousands of pounds!) You’ll also find lots of other merchandise, promotions and sneak-peaks as well as a huge cosplay zone...

Back from Japan - Summer 2011

Hey guys we’re back from (an extremely hot) Japan. The last few weeks have been the busiest of my life I think. As well as Japan we had the LFCC (London Film and Comic Con) the weekend before we left and the Manchester MCM Expo the weekend after we came back… but we do it because we care, honest. Other than sweating like Pedo Bear in a playground (TMI right?) I had a really good time so it would be really nice over the following weeks if we could share what we got up to (minus the sweaty bits… I promise). As well as our blogs about Japan we’ll also be letting you guys know our plans for October MCM Expo! We’ll be showing off some of the great stuff we’ll have on offer. We’ll also be implementing some changes to TokyoBookstore but don’t worry they’re all for the better trust me.

Our July plans (with important info!)

As you might have noticed the Tokyobookstore blog isn’t coming out as quick as a lot of you probably would like (we feel the same way). We apologise to you guys but we do have a few excuses so hopefully you guys will understand.
The last couple of months have been prep for a few things we’ve got coming up in July. The first thing on the agenda this July for us is the London Film and Comic Con! The LFCC is another one of our events we attend in the year. This year’s going to be great, we’ve got two tables full of Hentai and ecchi goodness so why don’t you come along and enjoy a great event.

The day after we come back from the LFCC we’ll be grabbing our bags and setting off to (a very hot and sunny) Japan....

The Doujinshi World

A lot of people are into collecting Doujinshi books, the main product we sell here on TokyoBookstore. But only a fraction of those who collect the books, collect other Doujinshi items like Music, Artbooks and even Video Games.
Welcome to the world of Doujinshi – fan-made media in homage to the creator’s favourite Series/ Game/ characters.

It’s Emilie here again and I thought I’d share my eclectic passion. Obviously, this is primarily what started off TokyoBookstore.com as the guys felt you just couldn’t get Doujinshi books over in England for a sensible price and low shipping...

Self-restraint in Japan

I’m talking about the ‘self-restraint’ polices the Japanese have towards their Ecchi and Pornography markets. As you probably know the Japanese Pornography market is extremely unique which has led to Japan growing into the world largest Pornography distributor which strongly influences Porn in the USA and the rest of the world. The main difference between Japan and other countries that have a thriving adult entertainment market is the censorship. Unless you stumbled across this blog accidently (-Wink-) you’ll probably know that all Porn from Japan, whether 2D or 3D has censoring around the crotch area for both females and males, it’s actually illegal for a vendor to sell Pornography in Japan without this censoring, but why? Well Pornography in Japan was first heavily scrutinised and banned in the Meiji Era (1868 to around 1912), all materials deemed ‘injurious to public morals’…

Girls and the H-scene?

Yes, it's a rather small percentage of the Hentai/ Ecchi-loving population but we DO EXIST. Then that percentage decreases even further after you stop mentioning over-commercialised titles like “Bible Black”, “Urotsukidoji” and “Strawberry Panic”.

But hold one second, you must be partially confused! A girl working for Tokyobookstore.com?! Those who haven't seen me on our stall back in February's 'Midlands MCM' won't know that I exist. I am Emilie, the other 1/3 that makes up Tokyobookstore.com (or 'TBS#2' as I like to call it. Anyone that gets the reference deserves a nice slab of cake and a glass of champers.) I have been working with the guys since November, helping price and translate titles for the website, also editing all of their blogs...

Justin lee Collins: Turning Japanese is a documentary mini-series about a trip
the comedian/ tv presenter Justin lee Collins took to Japan. Through the three
part series we see Justin exploring the Japanese way of life (old and new) and
the many different subcultures Japan has on show and behind closed doors.
Justin lee Collins: Turning Japanese was created by Channel Five (United
Kingdom). This is by far not the first series of its type in the UK let alone
the rest of the world, I mean the first things that got me hooked on Japan was
probably Pokémon and Jonathan Ross’s Japanorama in the early noughty’s (year
2000 and up). The difference here is that Jonathan Ross is an Otaku, he created
Japanorama because of his love and knowledge of Japan he was never out of his
comfort zone...

We found a lovely little Gundam café hidden behind Akihabara train station ~ read our blog here: http://tokyobookstore.com tokyo japan gundam

Gundam Cafe

The Gundam café is homage to everything...well Gundam of course! Gundam is probably one of the world’s most famous and iconic Anime/ Manga series, so to see this cute little café hidden behind Akihabara station was really exciting for us. Being a fairly big Gundam fan myself I shockingly hadn’t heard it opened, having only opened in late April 2010, it didn’t appear on Google street view. When walking into the café you're greeted by a completely female staff - similar to a maid café (with the prices on the menu very similar to a maid café also). But I suppose if you wanted a coffee or a quick bite to eat you would stop by 'am pm' or 'MacDonald’s'. With the Gundam café ... Read More at:

Hentai Fukubukuro “lucky bag”

A neat little bit of Japan’s culture that we have wanted to indulge in for a while here at Tokyobookstore; is the practice of offering “Fukubukuro” on the site. For those who may not know, “Fukubukuro” – “Lucky Bags” in English, are bags of mixed goods from a shop, sold at a heavily discounted price, unbeknownst to customers when purchasing. Usually a New Year’s marketing tool among shopkeepers in Japan, we want to provide you with these fantastic lucky bags throughout the year while stocks last.
For all our customers who can’t purchase online, or who want to try to feel the contents, we will also be selling a few at our upcoming events – so check out where we will be Here!
Whether you want to have one of these awesome Fukubukuro to yourself, or to share the excitement as a gift, we will fill every bag of each price range lovingly with Ecchi goodies so you won’t be disappointed! We’ve also put a few of the brad new Hentai Doujinshi from a recent trip to Japan in a few Fukubukuro worth up to £22 each. Will you be the lucky one to receive a new stash of rare Doujinshi? Best put your lucky pants on and purchase one now!

Sweets in Japan

There are a lot of things I love about Japan and one of those things I can’t get enough of is Japanese sweets. Due to changing fashions and tastes in Japan there’s always a huge selection of Japanese chocolate, sweets and crisps I haven’t tried. Call it luck, divine intervention or most likely carb burning from carrying hundreds of bags of porn to and from shops and hotels (I’m not over exaggerating we calculated the weight of everything we bought from our last trip and found it to be about 200 kilograms which is almost 3 of me, don’t do the math!) but somehow I gain no weight from my trips to Japan even though I’m eating sweets and crisps by the cart full. We’ve added a video up on our YouTube which shows the extent of our gluttony, I must add a fair amount was to be given to friends as gifts it’s not all to put me into a food coma (mostly). more at: http://tokyobookstore.com

Winter in Tokyo

Happy New Year to everyone from tokyobook- store.com, for us and tokyobookstore last year was extremely hectic. In 2010 we’ve seen the business expand from some tables at a few comic expos to an online store where anyone at anytime throughout Europe and the rest of the world can purchase from us. But don’t worry you’ll still be able to visit our stand at upcoming events in 2011 so make sure to keep checking our events page for more details. In 2011 we hope to grow the business even more, adding new features to the web site giving customers and visitors a far better experience. We plan on expanding our product range like we’ve started with the sale of Tenga adult toys; we’re also planning to attend a lot more conventions and events. We’ve also got some very exciting new promotions coming up later on in the year so make sure to watch out for those.

As most of our readers might know we just got back from Japan a few weeks ago, unfortunately due to the extensive amount of stock were having to sort through and list we haven’t had a chance to share much of our experiences with you. So over the next few weeks we’ll be getting up a few fun blogs and photos as well as a couple of videos from our trip to Japan. We’ve added a few photos from our trip to Tokyo, which were mostly taken around Akihabara.
